The Amsterdam Markets Guide – Shop like you mean it!

Shopping is always fun, but what’s the point of traveling to a different/new city if you are only going to enter an enclosed air-conditioned shopping mall which might as well be anywhere else on the planet? Same brands, same goods, perhaps different prices but don’t tell me you traveled all the way to Amsterdam just to try and save a few bucks/euros on that enter_generic_brand_here coat or pair of pants? No, no, no…if you made it to Amsterdam and want to do some shopping – you really ought to check out the city markets. Not only are they all unique, but there’s quite a few around the city offering everything from food and clothes to electronics, souvenirs, art and second hand goods. And they really are in Amsterdam – you can see it, you can feel it, and you can even smell it in the air.

Kalverstraat – highstreet fashion in the heart of Amsterdam

If you love shopping and you want to get the best Dutch and international highstreet brands in town, head to the always lively Kalverstraat, just a few steps off Dam Square.

9-Streets – Endless Shopping Fun

If you think that Amsterdam is just museums, bikes, flowers, windmills, coffee shops and canals, think twice. Amsterdam is that and much, much more. One of the things that Amsterdam offers and is slightly unknown is its shopping districts… When I came here as a tourist for the first time I could not help but noticing the variety and colorfulness of stores downtown, especially in the 9-Straatjes (the 9 Streets Shopping District) right in the city centre. Fasten your seatbelts, because I am going to introduce you now to la crème de la crème of the Negen Straatjes. 9-Streets of Fashion = endless shopping. Bear with me.

Dutch Fashion – Forget wooden shoes and get to know real Dutch fashion

While walking down the streets of Amsterdam the other day, I realized how diverse and edgy Dutch fashion is and how, weirdly enough, it is quite unknown to fashionistas around the world. Yes, everyone has heard about Viktor & Rolf and the well-known supermodels Doutzen Kroes, Mark van der Loo, Lara Stone and Karen Mulder, but what about hard-core fashion? What about designers? Paris, Milan, London… what about Amsterdam!?

Shopping in Amsterdam – Shop ‘til drop in the streets of Amsterdam

Milan, Paris and New York are known for being the capitals of fashion but when it comes to shopping Amsterdam does not fall behind. Dutch design is worldwide famous and for a reason. Amsterdam offers great shopping for all budgets and styles. Designer brands, high street fashion and unique boutiques, charming book stores and lively cafes in which you can sit and relax after a long day walking down the streets of A’Dam and its endless shopping streets. It is not for nothing that one of the shopping areas of downtown Amsterdam is called the 9 Streets. Yes, 9 streets of shops almost exclusively. But there is more, much more!
